Sheath Cleaning

Elite Equine EPMIt’s the one chore everyone hates to do, but it is so important! Geldings and stallions can develop “beans” in their urethral process that can cause pain and various clinical signs. Some geldings or stallions will not be able to extend their penis to urinate, act painful upon urination, show signs of colic and can show signs of lameness. As you can imagine, not all horses will allow you to safely check them. Your veterinarian can sedate your gelding or stallion and clean their sheath and check for beans. This should be done at least once a year. Some need it more often.
