Kinesiology Taping for Animals
Many human athletes rely on kinesiology taping to support and activate their muscles and joints, but until recently, taping has not been used in our equine athletes because of the fact that they have a hair coat. Dr. Koch uses tape designed specifically for the horse called Equi-Tape®. This tape is designed to adhere to and lift the horse’s hair coat and skin, which decompresses the tissue, allowing for increased circulation to the affected area.
Certified & Experienced
Dr. Koch is a certified Equi-Tape practitioner and has found strategic kinesiology taping to be a non-invasive way to help horses perform better, recover quicker and heal faster.
Kinesiology tape can be applied in many different ways, which makes the possibility of ailments it can help nearly endless. It can be applied over joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments and because the tape Dr. Koch uses is flexible and durable, it can even be used while the horse is training and/or competing.
Dr. Koch most commonly uses kinesiology taping to:
- Relieve muscle pain and tension
- Reduce inflammation and increase circulation
- Re-educate muscle memory and improve body awareness
- Support the musculoskeletal system during training and performance
- Encourage full range of motion in the musculoskeletal system
- Decrease recovery and rehabilitation time
Additionally, kinesiology taping can help enhance other modalities, such as chiropractic care and acupuncture. Dr. Koch believes chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture and taping are all very complimentary to each other and work best when used together.
